Adsense or Awstats

My Awstats say I'm getting 20 visits per day.
My Adsense account says I'm getting about 2 page impressions per day.
Assuming they mean the same thing, why is there such a discrepancy?
Shouldn't these numbers be about the same?

20 visits could be:
1) A visit from search engine spiders like Googlebot
2) Someone landed on your pages that has no adsense. eg. Sitemap
3) Someone click on your page, registered as a visit in Awstats but while waiting for your page to load, they click away and so Adsense is not registering.

Plus other reasons.

There are a lot of spam bots that hit your page without really loading it, looking for fill in forms, email addresses or whatever.

Depending on the kind of site you have, people may be surfing your site via a proxy that blocks scripts like adsense from displaying.

Visitors using an ad blocker would account for this.
