What to do if sand boxed?

Hi

I have a really cool domain which is exactly the same as the search term which gets 6k searches a month. Anyhow thats useless right now as now I dont rank for anything, I found one rank at 177 LOL.

The domain is a few weeks old,

Its a great domain, should I go ahead and build back links to it or will this be fruitless?

If you put up original content, and start building backlinks (a variety of backlinks - ie not all social book marking), you should start going up the rankings quite fast.

Good loves good content, and if you make posts/pages that are related (ie full k/w research), they'll also help support the front page, don't forget to put 1-2 links in each extra page, to another post/page or the front page, and remember to vary the anchor text =)

In the event of a sandbox , I will usually continue the constant building of backlinks to the site and usually the rankings will surface again in time to come ... say a couple of months

Do like normal, update content, build backlink, etc, just like you didn't got sandboxes

There you go. New domains have to establish some trust with Google before they rank except temporarily under "Query Deserves Freshness". Continue to get links and allow the domain and links to it to age and you will be fine.

It does seem a bit weird though as 2 other domains of the same age are on there and ranking ok. Do you think its possible that I over bookmarked it and would I get penalized for that or not really? (not in the control of the owner who bookmarks the site in googles eyes?)

Yeah, think Marathon NOT Sprint. If you think your Site is going to earn you money hand over fist in a few months you are more than likely kidding yourself.

It is a process and it took me 1 solid year efore I started to see my two top Sites start earning money.
I would expect the same. And if it happens sooner then its like icing on the cake

On a serious note; ensure all your OnPage factors are in order - and as others mentioned develop a decent backlink strategy. You will soon see your pages increase in rank.

In order to make sure your site is ready for that go back to good, old fashioned SEO. Make sure your site is designed in a search engine friendly manner, that there is plenty of keyword rich content and that you allocate the necessary resources to link building.

Over the months continually add to your site in the form of FAQ's, Buyer's Guides, Product info pages, How-To's, Tips and other unique content. If you send out newsletters archive them on the site. If you write articles for publication off line add a section for them on the site. By the time Google lets you out of the sandbox you'll have a content rich power house of a site that should do well in the rankings.

Build some rich content, think about optimizing it in the meantime. Wait (usually avg. 6 months, as short as 2 months), then when the site comes out of the sandbox you will get ranked in a great location.

I'm assuming it's still fine to build links in the meantime? does anyone know if this displeases Google?

It's not just fine, it's a priority. How is your site going to move to a more or less visible position once out of the sandbox? You need to work on your links as hard as ever - you are providing for the future.

No, a few in a few days (meaning less than 1000 or so) won't attract any attention. You would need to have 1000's and 1000's of generated links over a 24 hour period to attract attention.

Domains getting indexed and how well they rank depends, in part, on the amount of competition in the niche. For example, Google has 1000's of forex domains indexed and getting a new one ranked decently is quite a chore. A new one may pop up quickly and rapidly drop back down into the pits, even for many long tails. But, a new domain about 'fingernail polish art' might rank well from the start and stay that way since Google only has a few sites indexed on those exact terms.

I don't know - right now i have a sandboxed site but I am just doing the link building exercise, and I hope I come out of sandbox on one fine morning. There is not much that you can do about it, given that you have a site with quality original relevant content and enough reasonable backlinks. If you don't have such a nice site then change it to make the content original and relevant.

yes i am facing same problem right now..
but i am still building links... i guess its better to build them than stop
