Forum Sigs, Backlinks, and Paris Hilton

OK, the Paris Hilton bit was just to get you to click. Muhahaha.

Anyways, someone on another forum just posted that when you have your links in your sig, every time you post a reply or thread/response, it's considered a backlink from the forum site.

Hmmm... I may be an idiot, but is this true?

The answer to your question is yes. The reservation to be made here is the value of the backlinks (marginal, actually).

Yes, of course. Just think of it this way, every single page that links back to your site counts as a backlink. So, every time you are replying to a different thread or another page withing a thread you are getting a backlink from a new page...which means a new backlink!

Now, as far as how valuable multiple backlinks from a forum are I couldn't tell you. However, if I were to make an educated guess based on my experience with SEO then I would say that multiple backlinks from a single forum through signature links are better than just one. The way I see it is that a link is a link, and as long as your links are coming from different pages it should count as an entirely new backlink.

It depends on a forum... for sitepoint, yes.. it will count.

The OP means "backlink" not just a link... not all links can be backlinks... those links from banned sites cannot be considered backlinks to google.

i think the answer is yes. anything that 'links back ' to your site is a backlink. LOL.
so posting, and commenting on forums and blogs with your signature, can be very productive in driving traffic to your site.:-)

It depends on weather the forum is do follow or not.
