Default First few rankings in the search engines

As is a known fact, reaching first page of google, and other search engines is an achievement in itself. Being part of promotional team, I have been trying to promote a newly launched site off late. We have attempted to do onpage as well as offpage search engine optimization.

I am looking for tips to increase our site pagerank, since it dropped in the last update. Our register page was at 2 and now is down to 0 (ouch, I know!). Also, how to promote in our niche so that it shows up in the first few rankings in the search engines.

Thanks in advance!

Easiest way to increase your PR is to get high PR sites to link to you.

Best of luck.

Make sure all external links from your site are nofollow.

Mickm, But getting backlink from high PR sites is not that easy.

kristianw, I do have link partners page. So, you recommend removing them?

And how to get the site ranking higher in SERPs? What else can be done to the site increase the PR for the next update and rankings in the search eingines?

You are in a good market for gaining relevant backlinks. I would set up a sister site and use it to trade 3 way links with other dating sites. Using something like IBP Pro you could get yourself a list of several thousand dating sites and their emails so all you would need to do is 1. Set up the sister site 2. Use IBP to gain you dating site emails. 3. fire of a bulk email to them all asking for a 3 way link exchange. 4. Make Money ;-)

I have never used three way linking and not sure if I would like to set up another site. I am looking to do on page and off page optimization to this site so that it could rank well in the top listings. Any suggestions regarding that?

Looking for feedback for any improvement to the website as well.

any link on your site pointing to another site must be nofollow. also try linking out to a few authority sites in your niche.

"Google sees the attribute rel="nofollow" on hyperlinks, those links won't get any credit when we rank websites in our search results.

<a rel="nofollow" href="wwwdotexampledotcom/">Anchor Text</a>

This is a joint effort by the major players in the search and blog space to curtail and/or prevent what is referred to as Comment Spam
"

This example ? given really work or not?

I am sure this works. I had a few outgoing links without "nofollow" tag. That might have lead to drop in the PR. I have removed them for good. Hopefully, next update brings some good news.

I also have section devoted to articles about dating. It is updated regularly but google does not seem to index it very frequently. As far as I have read, quality content is what is stressed on and googlebot will visit you more frequently. Our articles are unique and updated frequently. Why are they not visited often by googlebot? What am I doing wrong?
