Do web2.0s impact rankings negatively?

Hi,

I use web2.0 backlinks from blogger, wordpress and tumblr etc to diversify my anchor text but I've noticed recently that adding just one of these impacts my ranking negatively? Can anyone shed some light on this? The web2.0s are normally about 3 pages of unique high quality content. I use images and embed video.

Thanks,
Seamy

No way they are giving you negative effect. It might just be a short term Google dance or you did something else that affected you in a negative way.

I see this pretty commonly as well - sometimes my posts jump around 1-2 spots, then settle at something higher a few days later.

I don't really like using them but I can't think of a better way of diversifying my anchor text. I am tempted to drop them altogether though.

Link diversity means ip diversity. so it means you need different platforms instead of only blogger and word press.

I think it's quite unlikely that having those backlinks would matter that much. It's more likely that your SERP positions are changing for no apparent reason. However, there's not enough information to make any judgement.

What do you exactly mean by "impact ranking negatively"? What kind of sites are they (new, established...)? What kind of backlink profiles? What makes your content "high quality" (hint: it's not uniqueness)? And so forth.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

I can't believe. You must have make some other backlinks that giving you the negative impact on your website. Check your backlinks and analyze them.

It could be an issue that your posts with your links went to an inner page and "rolled" off the homepage. In this case it wouldn't hurt you, but wouldn't benefit you as greatly as creating just one post and leaving it.

On the flip side, many people create weak web2.0s without images, videos, h1, etc. You should treat these super web2.0s as their own website and not a backlink dumping ground. The multiple pages interlinked will also give it more clout vs a one page wonder.

No, web 2.0s should not affect you negatively unless:
    - Huge amount of backlinks built in an inconsistent manner
    - High quantity of same anchor text
    - High quantity of backlinks only point to a single page of your main website

Your rankings in the SERPs will always move about - it will generally only stop being that erratic after you have reached top 5 position on page #1 of Google for most keywords.

Anything at the bottom of page #1 or page #2 onward may be randomized/moved around for no clear reasons.

Actually, I've seen this happen a few times. After making a few tests, I've come to the conclusion that its the PA of the new web 2.0 link.

Typically, I only link to my money sites from PBN (high PR/PA/DA) domains. A brand new created web 2.0 has a PA of 1, and is bringing down the average. I've even seen that by removing these links, the SERP ranking jumps back up to where it was before.

What I do now, is juice them up to PA 30 before I start linking to my money page. This not only avoids the negative or 'dance' effect, but consistently helps raise SERP rank.

I think as long as you will not plan to abandon those web2.0 sites totally, it will not give you negative effects. Make sure that you often publish new content on those sites consistently in the time intervals that you want.

You may be reading the signals wrong, it is not that they affect negatively it may be that Google is counting your backlinks and you get into the "Google dance" the bounce on ranks when new backlinks are discovered, this is normal.
