Default Who has tested wordpress strucutre thoroughyl?

I always ask Wordpress questions and I'm always scouring the web to find out the answers, unfortunately I'm not getting too far with it.

Basically, what is the answer to what you should allow to be indexed and what shouldn't be allowed.

I put my pivacy policy etc off limits but what about categories?

Do you leave them to be indexed and limit the posts, as it can give a better structure or do you nonindex everything apart from pages annd posts?

The debate is out and I hope someone here has done thorough testing of this.

Thanks.

Here is one article on that very topic
Use robots.txt to protect your blog from duplicate content issue | ShoutMeloud
Seems to make pretty good sense to me.

I will point out though that sometimes getting too deep under the hood on things like this are not always as effective as you might think. There are many super popular sites that have lots of duplicate content, and do just fine.

And hey, what ever happened with your signature and sales copy?

PHP Link Directory Script - a great addition to ANY website and much more than just a directory.

I don't think it is a particular problem as posts, categories and tags always seem to get indexed by Google. A good way of seeing if there are duplicate content issues within your blog is by having a webmaster tools account at Google and checking there to see if the blog passes the HTML suggestions diagnostics. I have never seen any problems except with duplicate titles but that was due to using a translator plugin.

@Intrepreneur
I know the feeling of this..
Well IMHO
It actually depend on how your categories are shown.. if they are showing only the excerpt It's actually good to make them index your categories.. but if not then make them nofollow using the robots.txt file.
Let us know if you have any more queries...

My observation from over 100 WordPress sites is that Google's algorithm knows WordPress sites well and indexes and presents their content well in search results without the need for any special tweaking on your part other than what's provided by either the All-in-One SEO or Platinum SEO plugins default configuration.

use the all-in-one seo plugin and you wont need to worry about it.

I actually wrote about this in my latest ebook/report. I don't disallow indexing of any WP pages/posts/categories/etc. Instead I make sure each section has it's own differences in layout and presentation because I want everything I can to be indexed since any of it can rank well. And category or tag pages are particularly useful as targeted topic focused landing pages.

Thanks whoever said Google knows a wordpress site.

I guess they had to do something to help us out so we're not blogging away for nothing.

Thanks

One thing that helps is if you set your permalinks structure to %postname%.php.....this enables the spiders to read your titles in a much more effective way.....if you have not done this and you want to change, just make sure you do 301 redirects.....you can get the 'redirects' plugin or better yet use Platnum Seo Pack...and opt for 301 redirects
