SEO - It's contagious!

Hiya warriors,

I recently bought Steven Crooks' Adsense guide, and have been applying to one of my blogs. My son has also been reading through it. I homeschool him, and he started a blog about a game he plays as a "technology course". LOL (It's neat what we can do and call it school)

He's been working on it for about 2 weeks now. He has uploaded a theme, did some keyword research, made a youtube video and put several posts, following the SEO guidelines in Steven's guide, (to the best a kid can).

He just came and told me that the main keyword he was working on is now ranking #4 out of 13,000 searches and #10 out of #45,000 on another search.

He hasn't really done any monetizing yet (which is his ultimate goal) except for Adsense, but he thinks it is so cool that he is ranking where he is.

Oh, by the way - he's in 6th grade......

Wow, that is fantastic! I remember you sending me the email about your son using the techniques in my Adsense guide for his project and I remember feeling quite humble. Now I am so happy to see he is actually getting some success as well.. He has made my weekend!

For everyone outside of America (there are a few of us btw), how old is 6th grade?
It's great that he's making a success of it, but too much too young and perhaps he won't bother finishing his schooling or going to college etc.?

That's a great way to teach your son and disguise it as fun! You never know, had might be one of the leading internet marketeers in a few years. I really I wish I'd have got involved when I was a lot younger.

He turned 12 last month.

It's in another thread on this forum, but I am not quite sure how to link to another thread. It has over 1700 replies though, so pretty easy to find. Steve set himself a goal of reaching $100/day with Adsense in 90 days. He didn't reach his goal in that time frame, but I think he's up to about $70 a day now.

Heh - homeschooling rocks! So many ways for kids to learn without having to have textbook. He's very self-motivated as well. Now his twin brother - sheesh - that's a different story!

Or, he just might earn enough to pay for his own college, and actually know what he wants to study when he gets there.

I wouldn't worry about it though. I could be wrong, but isn't one of the biggest reasons parents pay outrageous sums of money to send their kids to college, so that they can learn a skill with which to earn an income?

Somehow I can't imagine me telling my spouse, "Whatever you do dear, don't teach little Johnny to earn too much money. It will just ruin the opportunity for us to pay through the nose for someone else to teach him how to earn a living."

My guess is that he's a bright child, applying his skills in a constructive manner. I'd continue to encourage him.
