Need Blog Commenting Tips

Hello warriors,

I've started a link building campaign for one of my websites, and I was wondering if anyone has any blog commenting tips to share?

What I mean by tips is personal experience on what comments are marked as spam and what type of comments are always accepted?

I'm not talking about the common sense type of tips like "keep it relevant", I'm talking about stuff like "use smileys and ask questions" or whatever I think you get the point.

Personally, I don't go around commenting on as many blogs as possible. Instead I find a few that will accept me, and then I actually get involved on their site. Not only does it help with search engines, but people on the site come to recognize who I am, and I get traffic as well.

I will just share my personal experiences about blog commenting.
Sometimes relevant and on-topic comments got rejected as well just because the owner of the blog can smell if he/she is doing blog commenting just as a way of promotion and not at all interested in his blog.
I prefer doing relevant comments without placing any link in the comment for the first time. After that the admin approve it and give relevant reply as well and then we can reply him back using some links so that he understand that he is getting some returning visitor to his blog.
Even if you are putting some links for the first time just be as much relevant as you can and be descriptive about your comment too. Don't ever comment like you are just doing it as a job/business but always do that the owner of blog thinks that you are really interested in the content and read the whole thing as well.

This is really good advice! I've tried blog commenting in the past and it was a miserable failure. I always left relevant and useful comments but always got rejected. I suspect (as someone else has pointed out in this thread) that the owners of the blog could tell I was just commenting to leave a backlink. I have a few blogs myself and I tend to reject most comments as well as I can clearly see what is going on.

So given my own experience with blog commenting and as an owner of blogs, I say this guy's advice is spot on. Pick a few blogs that interest you and become a part of their "community."

Write comments that don´t look like spam. The longer the comments, the better. It also depends on the blog. Some people don´t want anything that looks like spam while others are happy for every visitor.
I also noticed that the url submitted has some influence as well. I have two websites with quite large content and three minisites and 1 blog with only little content and many affiliate links. The mini sites and the blog are getting rejected more often than the sites with more content.

Normally, I do not use blog commentings a lot in my promotions, Because, it is hard to find DOFOLLOW topic related blogs. If we find, that is more than enough to get more PR as well as traffic. However, I had done some kind of OFF Topic, blog comments on PR pages, that give a lot of traffic to me. One of the important thing while selecting a blog is, you have to check whether there are spammy comments - If there are spammy comments, that will give a negative effect to your site..... Also, you have to make sure, you are not leaving a spammy comment too.....

It is too hard to find related quality blogs that are dofollow. I have had good luck with blogs that use the keywordluv comment. These are willing to let you use a keyword as long as you participate in the discussion. Generally they will only not approve you if you are porn or prescriptions.

Concentrate on blogs in your niche and make useful comments.Some people only comment on high PR blogs or blogs which are "do follow".If you write an excellent comment people will visit your site anyway.

I'm not administering any blogs yet, but on the message boards that I help with, I cruise the index looking for posts made by members with new names. I may not open posts by members that I recognize, but I DO open every post made by a new member. If I find any advertising I will delete the post and the member, and ban the member's IP.

Even if the first post has no spam, I will check out the member's profile and look at things like personal hobbies, etc. I may deactivate the member if the profile includes certain items that we have determined usually mean spammers are visiting.

It seems that participation has come to require something more than one good post.

I've said it before. Develop a relationship with the owner of a related blog and you might find yourself on the blogroll. Then it doesn't matter if the blog is do-follow or not, the blogroll is (generally) always do-follow. That blogger is also more likely to link to your posts from his, these are also usually do-follow links.

How do you develop that relationship?

• Contribute to the other persons blog by writing useful and relevant comments.
• Start private conversations with the owner.
• Interview the owner for your blog.
• And most important, be real. Don't come off as a phony.

That should help with 99 percent of personal bloggers.

By using a bunch of smileys, doesn't make any sense. Keeping the comment short and appropriate to the subject is really helpful. If the comments are just made to do the publicity and in a plenty of time with just irrelevancy, it may be considered as a spam.

Everyone thanks for your thoughts. It is quite difficult to leave comments with anchor text in the link because this is immediately seen as spam.

From the comments that I left the past three days, I do the following:

lets say I want car insurance as the keyword. Then I use anchor text like

-Mr. Car Insurance
-Insurance Fanatic
-Insurance Guy
-Car Insurance Expert
-etc. etc.

For some reason this works just as well as leaving your name.

I try to read the entire article and then comment, but what I've seen helps is comment on the person who commented last, then it looks as if you are part of the conversation. Also asking interesting questions and giving relevant compliments to the writer of the article also works. "Thanks for the article" is not a compliment that is spam

Use of smileys wont get your comment accepted.However, i agree with dvduval and i choose few blogs on my niche and try to be a part of the community by making relevant comments.
Comments including some points which the author forgot to mention, or any tips to the author helps you get your comments accepted.

It is very hard to find DOFOLLOW blogs, however, If we write some good comments, those would be accpeted, As well as, I am sure there are more and more traffic can be obtained from blog commentings rather than any other methods. When commentings we have to make sure that we deliver a comment relevant to the topic which is being discussed there and we have to make sure that there are more words in your comment, So, the blog admin do not ignore you as a spam and he/she will be happy to have your comment in his/her blog.......

question, when putting comments, if I put the URL so it shows in my name as say 'Daniel James Photography' and the url is pointing to my website obviously, and then I comment as normal like 'great site etc' with no backlinks in, will the 'Daniel James Photography' be picked up as its the name not in a comment as such?

Not only should it be relevant, but if at all possible you'd probably want to offer help, insight, or even a contrary opinion.

The comments that I mark as spam?

"Great read. I bookmarked it", and things like that.

I always like to agree with another commenter then provide a better solution or even ask another question, works all the time.

i always look for relevant blogs...post some comments with sense even if it is not a dofollow. For me, at least it's still considered as baclink(s)
