Hi Warriors, Have been spending some time recently back linking for a new non-IM site in forums. Just doing the norm - anchored link in my signature. It's a gazillion times easier than article writing and, unlike blog commenting, you know that you're link doesn't have to go through moderation! This is not something that I have done much of before. Based on your experiences how much Google juice do forum signature links carry? Is it something that could be used in isolation to rank for a moderately competitive keyword? I love it! It's so easy. I think it's a good idea to spread out the votes. 100 backlinks from one forum probably wouldn't pass too much value, but if these links come from a wide range of forums then you would probably benefit more. This means that you're also advertising to a larger sized audience and will be getting more exposure. Other than backlinks you should also see a good number of referrals, especially if you're targeting relevant forums.

For one of my sites it worked very well and it gave the plus of generating traffic from the forum. For one of the others, every time I created a link in my signature they banned me from the forums! So yes it can work very effectively. The only thing I'm not sure about is I've heard you only get power from 2 or so links from any domain. It's not based on any evidence and I would take it with a grain of salt with the amount of false information that goes on around here. Good luck! |

Thanks for the great advice guys. I'm going to continue to test this and will report back. Haven't been banned for any forums yet. Site that I'm working on is in the baby niche and there seem to be loads of forums which permit links in signatures. Have to keep pretending that I'm a pregnant mum though so I don't stick out like a sore thumb. Lol! Andy |

It also is going to depend on how useful the threads you post on are to users. If a page with your link on it has been around since 2004 and still has unique PR, then each and every one of those links will be at least somewhat useful. As previous posters alluded to there is definitely diminished returns as you get up in numbers. On a bit of a tangent Sitewide links are largely ignored now. |

Forum backlinking is for sure good and if you are trying to make relevant posts and getting interacted in forums honestly then you can surely get some good backlinks from forum signature and you will not get banned if you follow the rules ![]() Baby niche is good and people show interests in it specially mothers or to be moms like you so you should target some parenting or baby forums as these are really good to get real visitors on your website. Very interesting Ben. So I guess that if you're backlinking via article marketing there is no benefit in publishing more than a couple of articles in each directory. Thanks, Andy |

| Google juice depends on the pagerank of the forum. For example, if you post a reply on a thread with PR3, you will get good juice. But it is very hard to find forums with PR threads. From my experience, i have seen forum signatures as backlinks in Google webmaster tools so it must help a little.

@ Andy Article marketing? You mean pre-sale type pages? Or do you mean press release style? You want to be more clear because I know that if you were pasting full blown copy (articles) on my forum I would ban you. As far as what to look for try to keep it simple. Find several forums that are very active. Try to answer 1 or 2 threads a day. I think I may not be understanding where you're going with this? |

No, would never do this! I was just picking up the the earlier comment that only a couple of links from each domain count from a ranking point of view. So for backlinking via article marketing (i.e. NOT forum marketing) there seems little point in uploading more than a couple of articles per directory. Thanks, Andy

More than likely however most of your posts wont get indexed or PR'd. So I would say only do a couple indexed per directory... which often means you need to posts more than just a few.

I recommend it because for the effort... its worth the amount, however since most forums do not have PR on every post it is not worth that much if any.

Forum marketing is one of the most popular and effective marketing methods. This works well for quality baclinking as well. But It'd be better to consider mostly do-follow forums with high PR that will add more google juice for your sites.

| This forum is great for marketing IM products. Not so sure about anything else. The only benefit for non IM site links would be google juice and not much of that.

Yes guys, Forums posting is one of the best way to drive a huge traffic, But you have to make sure that you are giving valuable posts there and do share valuable thing without spamming the fourms, they you will be strong there, as well as If you just leave with 1 or 2 posts, later on you will be banned, It is better to stick over there and do about 15-20 posts, that is more than enough. However, If you can do post on various forums, that really helps rather than using one forum. Also, I have noticed there are guys in some famous forums are selling their signature links for monthly rate. So, these guys are earning with this even. Say, You have 100+ posts on an active + google friendly forum - I think that is more than enough to get listed within first 10 pages on google..... Best of luck...

I love forum marketing for niche markets. You get nice link juice to your sites, and as a bonus, good clickthrough traffic if your posts are meaningful. However, it's time consuming and a good job for a VA, if you can trust them! |

Find old forum threads that have pr to them, maybe 0,1 or 2. Once you've found that thread you can respond to it. thanks, |

I don't think that one specific link building method will be enough to get good and long lasting rankings. I think Forum signature links are more about driving traffic than SEO. I don't know the true value they carry but since all links from the same forum will be from the same IP address, the more links you will have the less juice they will carry. You need to use a variety of link building methods and if you are only looking for the "easy" way than I don't think it will be enough. You will need to work a little harder in my honest opinion. |
