you can very well go ahead and bid "a lot of money" on keywords like "lose weight" or "free credit score". After you burned a few thousand $$$ and didnt have one sale you will have the answer to your question ![]() Key is your budget, your conversion rate, what you pay and what you get paid per conversion. As for local searches: I have no idea how its possible that the locals show more than the globals? Do you have an example? |

Go for whatever you feel fit to compete, but personally I doubt it makes sense to plunge right into the highly competitives.

It really doesn't matter what the cost is. What really matters is the ROI for your keywords. You could bid on $5 keywords, but still have a great ROI. But, for the absolute beginner, I'd go with very low cost keywords, which are more than likely low volume, until you get a basic feel for PPC. Good luck! |

I would go with what GeorgR alludes to. Go for low cost at first and get yourself comfortable with the whole experience. If you get it wrong with low cost kw's then you may only be a few hundred dollars down the pan. Get it wrong with big money kw's and you could easily bust yourself in a few days. It takes time and probably a few losses to master no matter how easy it looks from the outside.

I agree with everyone here. I'm still trying to decide which is the right niche(s) to "invest" in. However, saying that, you may even have a big budget but that doesn't mean you can make a good ROI. Same can be said with going after cheap keywords only you won't spend as much. Money is simply ONE aspect of the game. There are multiple search engines to try, seo, social marketing, as well as direct linking or landing pages, credit card offers or zip/email submits, the list goes on and on. Budget is one thing, having a "plan of attack" is also incredibly important. Lots to learn I'm discovering! |

I sometimes promote hot keywords which are related to current events at a particular time... such as contestant names on American Idol, or news stories of the day. These kind of keywords are usually always initially very cheap (because Google has no search history for them), but they get thousands of people searching for them for a brief period of time. If you can think of a way to tie these searches to a product/offer, and get something launched quickly, you can ride the wave and make a killing. "Swine Flu" is an example of such a phrase. I'm sure hardly anyone would have searched for this prior to the outbreak, but as soon as it hit the news, millions of people were searching. You just have to then get creative on 'matching' this to an offer.... |
