Will google penalize my site if my ENTIRE (or majority) link building campaign is blog commenting? Just curious...

That's what I did and most of my sites have good ranking and PR too. But someone warned me that the big G may "detect" this someday and put me into trouble...i don't know, that's why I ask hmm...may be I should pay for someone for directory submission lol |

That's shall be OK because many high PR follow blog have anti-spammer plug in which do not allow many comment on it. And build up backlink through blog commenting will not too fast. So, it is safe

I'd say it is fine, but I would still diversify. What if that blog goes down, or the owner takes down that comment or post? You want to diversify your backlinks so that if one "type" gets slapped or taken down, it has little or no impact on your site.

I wouldn't want all my links from blog comments. Try some directory submissions and article writing.

As long as it comes with different linking strategies you should be fine. Also, do not send out spammy comments. Keep the comments related to the topic, provide some value and you'll even get a lot of traffic from the blogs. Spammy comments are removed pretty fast |

Just another tip - if you're commenting for the purpose of link building, make sure you check to make sure that blog doesn't use the "no follow" tag in comment url's. If they are, google won't count it and you've wasted your time.

I just use my sites Name as my name when im commenting. it has my keywords in it. BUT, be sure to have a quick look to see if they have a 'comment policy'. some blogs only let you use your real name. |

| That's interesting. I've heard about this for a while, but I've only done limited blog commenting myself. I tried to find some good blogs for webmasters that have the "do follow" links but didn't find too much.

cktan is right about looking at previous comments to see if the blog owner allows keywords or not. Many dofollow blog owners, like me, use a Wordpress plugin called KeywordLuv that encourages you to use yourname@Your Keywords. You can find many of those blogs by searching for "this site uses keywordluv". Just be sure to leave quality comments that are related to the post and your comments will usually be approved. Mike |

One of the problems i faced with blog commenting is getting filtered by Akismet on Word Press type blogs. Once you are in their alert list, its very difficult to let unlisted. I think this method should be fine though as long as your comments are genuine.

Using keywords in your name tag will surely get you banned within seconds. But that would still be a back link. Comment on "dofollow" only.

Here is my suggestion... use site wide links on competing websites.. find a way to get on their site using a partnership approach. Trading links worked for me.. I find that blog commenting is time consuming and finding NoFollow blogs can be tiresome. Work on the real deal.. the content.

There is nothing wrong in using blog comment for linkbuilding. But it is always good to get your link from as many different sources as possible. We do not know in what way google will respond to this t'morrow. You know well what happened to receprocal and directory links.so always be on the safer side

I would have to disagree with you on this point. If you are link building to bring targeted traffic to your website, then you have not wasted your time. I would rather have targeted traffic than a little green line on my tool bar. The little green line does nothing to bring you traffic or to help you get higher rankings in the SERPs. I think a lot of folks get confused about the little green line (PageRank). It doesn't bring you traffic it only impresses admirers of the the little green line. While a link that passes Pagerank is good, a link that sends targeted traffic is better.

Google likely will not penalize you. Just note though, blog commenting can be good, just make sure your comments are substantive, but also realize that you may not get link juice from some or many of them, because no follows are present in some of the major blogger platforms, as far as I've heard. I heard blogger uses a no follow, can anyone confirm this? What about wordpress? Blog comments can be good for some referral traffic sometimes. |

so PR and SEO from commenting would be non existant. am I incorrect with this idea? I may be out of the loop, a year ago it was commonly held that dynamic generated pages did not get spidered... I can see that one either has changed or was simply an SEO urban legend.

I prefer blog commenting and I am using it from past few months and I think because of it my few blogs got PR 4 to PR 3 as well. Not only this my keyword is also ranking high in search engine. Just remember one thing be honest while you are giving comments to any blog. I usually read full posts and than give comments so that blog owner also find it important to approve. |

I think its more important that your comments and the posts are relevant to the subject of your blog... think key words and similarity. IF you are all over the place commenting on blogs of wildly different topics, then you could really be wasting your time. Be sure to focus on the blogs that are similar in topic to your own and leave thoughtful, intelligent comments. This has the added benefit of allowing the owners to "Get to know you"... once that happens, you can possibly get a reciprocal link from them. |

Blog commenting is great way to link building.Especially if you found the blog that have comment luv plug in in it(i love commnet luv is just not straight way to put your comment on the blog but it has also snippet that aggregate your lates post via feed and will saw your last post in it,i just would say awsome for this). One more things that you must also choose blog that is do follow so your link will value in search engine bot. this link will refer you to tool that can search blog with do follow and also comment luv in it DoFollow Diver - The Premier DoFollow Blogs Search Engine, just only one rule don't spamming. In my opinion link building through blog comment is really great way for link building and it is legal way.

I think it is invitable that just posting comments (and even one-way links from directories) will raise flags for Google. You need to be "natural" as possible and linking to be organic (over a period of time, different anchor text / landing pages, different sources). You have heard it before - if you have good content: links will be natural and organic. |

so then I tested my own wordpress blog... left a comment on one of my posts with a link. that link is a "no follow" link, and I never set any attribute to not follow links in comments to my posts. So it must be the default. I became very discouraged, because I was told that blog commenting is a great way to boost rankings.

As long as you're doing it the legit way, I don't see any reason why Google should penalize you for that. But if you can expand you linkbuilding strategy then it's recommended to do so..

A lot of Blog Commenting discussions is going on in different forums. Personally I do not comment to get links to my business website, but I must admit it has been interesting since some of my clients have been doing this with remarkable effect on the Google SERP results when their target keywords has been used in the comments as anchor text. Several companies and private persons is also offering lucrative deals at almost no cost and some even offers as much as several hundred approved blog comments for as little as xx $ A friend of mine tested it on a pure test domain two months before the last Google PR update. He used Fast Blog Finder to detect High PR dofollow blogs and with high Page PR also. He filtered all results in Fast Blog Finder and only submitted comments to blogs that had his target keywords in it. He only commented blogs from +6 PR domains with Page PR above 5 and I have to say I was first impressed - then just sad! I think manipulating the Google SERP results by building links with "Blog comment spamming" is a large leak in Google that somehow has to be closed. Google's credability is dependent of relevant and good information in the SERP - and if to much manipulation is finding it's place into Big G I think we have a problem! I have been working as a SEO consultant for almost 10 years by now and I would strongly suggest that you build links on a naturally way and not by "misusing" the possiblitiy to provide short time results. I don't say Blog commenting is spam and I don't say that this is unethical, but as you might understand my personal opinion is that every attemt of manipulation the SERP is something everybody should aviod. As a SEO consultant I look at my job as a mission to HELP Google understand the content of my own and my customers websites and make them as available and easily understandable as possible for Google and other search engines. If some of the biggest spammers out there had put half the amount of the time they have been using on blog commenting to create Supreme Quality Content and/or successful viral campaigns they would possibly have had a lot more success - also on a long term basis :-) Personally I think Link building and all what is included in this is very interesting and I'm starving for information and experiences :-) |

Yeah that's very important. Blog commenting can be great, but you need to post relevant posts that contribute to the blog and not some junk like "cool... good post", because most likely they won't get approved anyway. As long as you have something worthwhile to say, then you should be fine.

truth is i never saw "real" or even consistent traffic from blog commenting but I truly believe it helps the optimization of a website even though 99% of blogs are no-follow. Ive never gone insane commenting on every blog either, thats not the right tactic, especially if you're leaving comments without any real substance which gives you no credibility. BUT, if you do, you will see traffic and you'll never get penalized for that. |

What do you mean a no-follow of your own? Being that my screen name is new on this forum (I am not a new member) I made a blog post yesterday on the no-follow tag and I think you'll really understand it. I cant directly link to it but here is the web address. You can read it here at palatnikfactor.com the 2nd post, I think you'll really get it! Maybe it'll answer the question, if it doest, let me know.

If you do all commentings in the natural way regardless the numbers one or hundreds or thousands of comments, you will not get penalized by Google. Make sure that all comments are different. Please be aware that this effort is high time consumsing.
