Default PPC - Lots of early conversions then nothing...?

I have experimented with PPC about 5 times now. Every single campaign I have run I have seen the exact same results. I get some conversions really early on, right when I start the campaign, and then nothing for the rest of the day. I receive a ton of clicks, eat up my budget, and get no conversions. I have tried PPC to polls leading to CPA offers. I have tried PPC to landing pages preselling CPA offers and I have tried PPC to reviews of clickbank products. All with the same result. Does anyone else have this result with PPC? Does anyone know why this phenomenon exists or how to get around it? It's very frustrating. I always get very excited when I see some conversions early on and then slowly get more and more bummed out as I see my PPC eat in to any profits I may have received from the early conversions.

How long do you allow your campaigns to run for? If you only have a small sample size then it could simply be bad luck.

Also you should check to see where those clicks are coming from because I've found ads clicked from video sites convert very poorly because they're usually clicked by accident. If you have any of these then you can simply choose not to display ads there.

Jake runs leading hypnosis site HypnoBusters. HypnoBusters offer hypnosis mp3s recorded by clinical hypnotherapist Jon Rhodes DHyp. They also currently sponsor Submit Health Links, a high quality health directory.

My current campaign has been running for about 5 days now. The very first day I had 2 conversions, making over $75, the following four days have seen no conversions. I am not using the content network at all. I'm just using search.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'm assuming it's just bad luck.

I've had similar results with PPC in certain niches. The question that always stuck in my mind, were my competitors 'eating' my ppc campaign? I'd like to think they were not but something in the back of my mind told me they were.

Funny this was posted...

Yesterday I wanted to test out a niche. Budget of 70 dollars and result of $175.

Not too shabby, right?

So before ramping it up, making the budget more like 300 dollars(yes there's enough traffic to have such a budget, I decided to wait one more day to see how it went.

Today 0 sales, and a loss of 70 dollars.

The loss doesn't really bug me too much, but the inconsistancy does.

Other campaigns are doing cool though and making pretty much the same amount as usual.

Kind of weird though...

Hi Matt,

I recommend that you try experimenting with day parting. It can make a huge difference in certain cases

There are a lot of tools on the market that allow competitors to copy your tactics and some might be out to do you harm. If you are doing affiliate marketing you will run into a lot of dubious competitors. You really need to aggressively defend your campaigns in the affiliate arena.

Use tracking to sniff out competitors and actively block them with the tools provided by AdWords.

Thanks for the advice. I set up Prosper 202 to do some tracking and never really noticed any ip addresses that were consistently clicking. I guess competition would be the best explanation though. With all the spy tools out there nowadays I guess they can tell if I've been profitable. It's just weird that it's only after one day. One day I had $60 profit the next three days in a row it was like 0 sales with $15 losses. I have my campaign paused right now until I really figure out what's going on. My one good day was 2 Fridays ago so I tried unpausing my campaign this past Friday to see if anything would happen but I had another losing day yet again.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it.
