Default Is this a good idea?

I want to know if this is a good idea to use for an AdSense site. I want to use blogger or word press to make my site. I am a newbie.

My keyword has about 250,000 competitors on google and is searched over 8000 times per month, according to Google Keyword Tool. My related keywords all have less competitors but also are searched less times.

I'm more than willing to put in the work for this site if I can achieve page 1 results. Should I shoot for another topic with less competitors, or is this one a good idea?

I'm open for any suggestions!

Yes you can sure use adsense on blog hosting websites or sub domains.
Try to target the keyword that has less competitions and mostly searched so that you can get on top easily but if you still want to compete a big list and really good at blogging then you can go for the selected keyword.
Thanks

Exact or broad? Competitors with "allintitle" or not? What is the PR of the top 10 sites for that keyword (without quotes) on Google?

THere is far more needed to determine if it is a good niche to build a site for. Steven covered the things you should start with.

You have to take a look at the top 5 sites just to see if they are all SEO'd up and such.

My question to you is was this an exact match for your keyword you want to target that had 250000. If so if you are good at seo and know alot about it you could get to that first page in no time at all. I wouldnt use blogger I would use wordpress you would get much better results with a self hosted wordpress blog over a wordpress hosted blog.

This is just my honest oppion. If you keep adding content on a regular basis google and yahoo will love you. Do not forget to get quality backlinks to your blog though. Since in order to rank high up you will need to do this with either a self hosted blog or a wordpress or blogger hosted blog. Here is my free piece of seo advice for backlinks for you. To build quality backlinks visit every blog and forum you can find related to your keyword and get a link back through either replying to forum trends or commenting on blogs.

I understand some are going to be a no follow blog. With out trying you simply do not know. Keep in mind when posting on these blogs. Do not go to the blog with a sales pitch for a comment then adding your link. If they are monitored by the admin or moderator they will simply be blocked and added as spam. Be suportive to the blog even if you do not like the blog one bit. A simple thanks nice post I will be back again works well then add in a small pitch saying come check out mine here or what not.

You just got a good back link not even trying to. Google and yahoo like sites with backlinks to sites with in there niche over random backlinks.
Forinstance if your site is say bird watching do not go get backlinks from a jewlery store this does absolutly no good for you and your site. Hope this helps and good luck if you want more tips on seo simply go to my blog in sig then go to seo category.

Unless the top 5 sites are wiki sites you can over take them no matter how good they where at building up there seo for that site. Wiki sites are the only ones that are almostimposible to over take since they get backlinks for every single keyword in that niche no matter what from the start. All you need to do is take the top 5 sites and do a simply link popularity search. Then just see who all they are getting backlinks from. If they have over 30k backlinks do not bother trying. It will take you at least a year to get over 10k good backlinks to your site to take over the top spot.

If you are going to set up a blog, register a domain and load up Wordpress. I recommend Hostgator as you can then add additional domains after you pay for your monthly account.

Remember, a blog is going to take significant work. You need to add content everyday and keep going for months and months.

However, a website may be less work if you are going to target Adsense as you can set up a static site, add plenty of content and THEN spend your time driving traffic.

Whatever you do, make sure you do a good job adding good quality content.

It's exact. Competitors are not "allintitile." I don't know how to do the PR for the top 10 sites. Could I use alexa?

That makes a lot of sense. I'm going to take a look at Hostgator right now!
