Time is money! While I'm not a fan of rushing or low-quality, I am a fan of making more money in less time. You're probably a fan of this too -- if I had to choose the number one question people ask me about writing, it would be how to write faster!

I get it -- it's frustrating to spend an hour or more on a single article. Writing an ebook can seem like a distant, never-gonna-happen, dream. This doesn't mean you're a bad writer by any stretch; just an inefficient one.

The good news is that there are some excellent, and easy, systems you can use starting today to dramatically improve your writing speed. You don't have to sacrifice quality either. In fact, oftentimes people produce a better article (or other piece of writing) because they are better organized -- jumbled thoughts lead to bad writing!

This is all about speed, so let's get going:

Step One

First, write an article so you can get a baseline. Many Internet marketers take about an hour to write an article. Others are quite a bit faster. Others take a few (or more) hours to get it done.

Pay attention to your process as you're writing. How do you research? Do you take the time to organize yourself? Do you find yourself editing as you write?

Take note of these things so you can improve.

Step Two

Now it's time to improve. First up -- concentrate on your research strategy. You do NOT have to read every single word of every single link you pull up in your research. This is inefficient. Skim the text to find information relevant to your article. Make note of it and organize your notes for easy access later.

Using some speed reading strategies can be very helpful when you're combing through research. That's not to say that you should miss out on what is being said, just that you should read as efficiently as possible so you can pull relevant notes quickly.

Step Three

Organize your notes. At this point, you should have notes from a variety of sources. Research is NOT about just rewriting someone's article. It's not about rewriting a few articles. It's about synthesizing the research and adding your own conclusions to it, using your own style and voice. Your article should add something to the body of research that is already there -- not be rehashed junk.

If you need to, write an outline. I tend to do this in my head these days. I organize my notes and away I go!

Step Four

Now it's time to write your article. This is where having a system comes in very, very handy. In the past, you might have had a jumble of research and incomplete thoughts. Your notes are organized now, so your thoughts can flow smoothly!

Here are some other tips to keep in mind so you can write more quickly:
  • Don't edit as you write -- wait until the end
  • Do not over-think...remember, editing comes later!
  • Dictation software can be an awesome way to speed up
  • Follow common article formats to pump out articles fast

Those are just a few tips based on a complete system of learning to write more quickly. Imagine how much more you could get done, and how much more money you could make, if you were able to write more quickly!
