Last week I was attending a local business social event attended by Presidents and CEOs of companies in my area that have gross revenue in excess of US$100,000 per year. My eBook publishing company was probably one of the smaller entities there. In fact, I think I might have been the only individual there whose company didn't actually have any formal office space. It brings up a good question that I've been asked repeatedly. Can you really operate a successful eBook publishing business from home?

A lot of people who get started with eBook publishing do so by themselves, usually working from home. The secret to being able to continue to work this way even when your sales and earnings grow exponentially is to have incredibly well optimized systems in place. It's beyond the scope of this article to talk about what those systems are, but suffice it to say you'll need to learn them if you want your eBook publishing business to be scalable while still allowing you to remain at home.

One of the biggest obstacles to managing your eBook publishing business from home is the distraction factor. Let's be honest, it's easy to sometimes get distracted or to end up feeling isolated and alone. As a result, we watch TV or do other things. You need to be incredibly focused on getting your eBook related work done, and then scheduling time to get out and be around people and enjoy life. We're social creatures, and it's important that you recognize the importance of social interaction.

So why was I at this local business social event? I take my own advice. I have a vibrant social schedule that has me interacting with other business leaders as well as with my friends and family. I'm living proof that you can run a highly successful eBook business from home.
