The job market is more fragile today than it has been in a very long time. People are losing their jobs left and right, and a lot of people are losing confidence in their ability to remain employed. During ordinary times when the economy is strong and companies are hiring, these concerns tend to get pushed under the rug. After all, if you happen to lose your job, you can usually just go out and get another one. It's not that hard during good times. But how about now, when things aren't as good as they once were?

You really need to have a backup plan. Ideally, you really need a second source of income. Now let's be realistic about this. I'm not suggesting that you go out and get a second job. That's hard. Just imagine yourself coming home after a long day at your primary job, only to have to walk out the door to go to your second job. Don't get me wrong, it can be done -- I know from first hand experience. I was working full time as a telephone technical support representative by day, and working 4 extra hours ever night at an outbound telemarketing company. By the time I went to sleep, I was totally drained.

I'd highly recommend that you supplement your primary income by doing what I eventually did -- starting an eBook publishing venture.
