Over the weekend I went on a bike ride with a good friend of mine who works for a small accounting firm in town. He and I rarely speak about business related things, so I was surprised when he brought up the topic this weekend. As we pulled in to take a break from our ride, he asked me if anyone else was making a killing with eBooks on the Internet. He knows that eBooks have made me independently wealthy, but his question revealed that at some level he might suspect my success was a fluke or not really obtainable by anyone else.
So that's the issue I want to address in this article. Can people really make massive amounts of money with eBooks, or is that just a delusion? It's an important question because there are a lot of individuals who are very interested in starting their own eBook publishing business. The only thing that's really stopping them is a fear that their time and effort will be wasted.
Let me point out a few things that I think you need to keep in mind:
1) You can't make any money with eBooks if you don't try.

2) It's better to wait until the economy improves before starting an eBook business.
No, it's not. Why? Because when the economy improves your excuse will them change to there being too much competition or too many eBooks or whatever else. Listen, you need to start your business today. Don't put it off any longer!
3) You can double your income by starting an eBook business where you self publish ebooks while keeping your day job.
I'm not aware of any other business that would allow you to keep your full-time job. Most require an all-or-nothing level of commitment.
Here's the bottom line: you can generate a very respectable income for yourself by launching an eBook publishing business. Best of all, the risks are minimal. Worst case scenario, you find yourself being out a few hundred dollars (at most). Compare than to buying into some restaurant franchise that requires you to invest upwards of $50,000 upfront without any guarantee that you'll earn any money. Forget that!
Getting starting with an eBook publishing business is easier than you might think. My response to the question my friend asked was simple -- yes, I'm aware of a lot of other people making obnoxious amounts of money with their own eBook publishing businesses.
