| CPanel makes managing your own website easy by arranging all of the features you need together under specific tabs related to their function. In this article we will take a look at the logs tab, which will help you to get a handle on who is visiting your website and how much bandwidth your site is using. You will also be able to view the raw access logs, the error log, select which log software you will use to view your stats, and the AWstats program, which provides a visual representation of your website's stats. Latest visitor stats Click on the ‘Latest Visitors' button within the ‘Logs’ tab of your cPanel home page and you will be brought to the ‘Latest Visitors Stats,’ screen. If you have more than one domain, click on the magnifying glass icon next to the domain that you want to view the stats for. At the top of the page you will see, ‘Latest visitors to: URL,’ and then below that you will find the reporting period and the total data sent. The next item is the visitor stats chart containing the IP address of the visitor, the URL they landed on, time, size, the referring URL, and the user agent. Bandwidth Click on the 'Bandwidth,' button and you will be brought to a screen where you will see several graphs that represent the amount of bandwidth that your site is consuming. This information is represented in five categories: HTTP-- web traffic POP3--receiving email IMAP--receiving email FTP--file transfer SMTP--sending email The pie charts represent information about the bandwidth used in a particular month. The bands of color display the proportion of monthly bandwidth that is being used by each of the five categories mentioned above. Raw Access Logs The raw access logs give you a glimpse of who has visited your website without all of the charts and graphs. Just select the domain that you want the stats for and then download the zip file to your desktop. You can log the access files and configure it to remove the previous month’s logs from the directory at the end of each month. Error Log The error log displays the last 300 errors for your site in reverse order. This feature can help you locate broken links or identify problems with missing files. You should check this file frequently so that you can quickly correct any problems before they cause you to lose visitors. Choose Log Programs If your webhost administrator has given you permission to do so, you will be able to choose from viewing either analog, AWstats or Webalizer stats programs to view your site’s stats. AWstats Clicking on the AWstats graphic will bring you to a chart where you can choose which domain you’d like to view the stats for. Click on the magnifying glass next to the domain name and you will get a summary at the top of the page of your website’s stats, and then monthly, daily, hourly charts. Further down the page you will find a list of the countries, IP addresses and the record of the search engine spiders that have been visiting your site. You can see how long visitors stay, which pages are the most popular, which operating systems your visitors are running, the top browsers they are using, the search phrases they used to find your site and what pages referred them to your site.
