Article Marketing - Does It Still PAY To Write Articles?

If you have been online for the last few months running or an online business or just getting started you will have heard lots of horror stories about article marketing.

It all started with the Google Farmer update that made some major changes to Google's listings and some pretty big sites that used to rank very well for article marketing were dropped down the listings.

However is it really that surprising?

Google has always wanted the most relevant, informative results and when you are reading reports, guides and watching video courses on SEO that tell you to write with a certain amount of keywords, make sure you include a certain amount of "<h2>" tags etc... Are you really writing for yourself or for the search engines?

So What Has Changed With Article Marketing?

Well I believe nothing!

That's right I said nothing!

As mentioned above Google is looking for EXACTLY the same thing as it was 5 or 6 years ago and that is clear, concise information that provides VALUE!

Now if you are writing your articles for the search engines can you REALLY say that the content will provide value?

We have all seen them, and if you are reading this and I kept on mentioning the phrase "make money online" or something similar you would not read it anyway right?

All that HAS changed is that Google is getting better at filtering out the low quality content.

So this brings me to my next point:

Provide quality in your articles, real quality!

Instead of just writing "3 tips to train your dog", write the exact procedure to train your dog to sit and add links that go through to informative resources and I am willing to bet you will get far more visitors and sales as well as have more success with article marketing.

The REAL key is this:

Do NOT focus on article directory marketing anymore!

You have seen all of the article directories get the "slap" and go shooting down the listings and if you had most of your work just on the article directories you may be felling the bite as well.

Well make sure you GROW your own sites with quality content and use the article directories to syndicate your articles.

What About Duplicate Content?

Google considers duplicate content to be similar material that is hosted in multiple locations both on your website and spread across many others.

Although that is the case there are ways to guide Google to let it know that your article, the original came from your website and it will see YOU as the authority.

To wrap up focus on providing real content for your articles, build your OWN sites and learn the difference between duplicate content and syndicated content and by the time the next update hits it won't cause you to get short of breath!
