Default How to Create a Facebook Fan Page App for iFrames with WordPress

Now that Facebook has switched over from using FBML to iFrames for its fan pages, you will have to learn a few new moves in order to add iFrame tabs to your fan page. It will be worth the effort because the new iFrame structure offers many more possibilities for what you can do with your fan page. As if that were not cool enough, you can use a free WordPress plugin to create a Facebook fan page iFrame tab.

Let’s dive right in.

Step 1: Click on the '+ Set Up New App' button in the upper right-hand corner of the page. (You may be asked to verify your mobile number if you have not already done so.)

Step 2: Name your app, and then agree to Facebook's terms and click the blue, "Create App" button. Next you'll be asked to fill in the Captcha code and then click submit.

Step 3: Basic Information

On this page you will give a brief description of your page, add an icon and a logo, and then fill in the remaining fields.

Next click on the 'Facebook Integration' link on the left hand navigation panel.

Complete these fields:
Canvas Page: This will be the App URL name

Canvas URL: Fill in the URL of the blog that you will be using for a fan page. Be sure to leave a trailing forward slash at the end of the URL: http://yourwebsite.com/nameoffanpagehere/

Canvas Type: Select iFrame

iFrame Size: Choose Auto-resize

Tab Name: Name the tab as it will appear on the sidebar of your fan page

Tab URL: Enter “index.php”

Next click ‘Save Changes”
Step 4: Click on the 'Application Profile Page' link on the right side of the page. Next, click on "Add to My Page" link in the lower left-hand navigation area.

Facebook will pop up a window with all of your fan pages listed. Click on the 'Add to Page' button next to the fan page that you want to add the new app to.

Now go to your fan page and you should see your new tab in the left navigation area with all of the other default tabs.

To make your new custom tab the page that visitors see when they first land on your page, click on 'Edit Page' and then click on 'Manage Permissions.' One of the options is, 'Default Landing Tab:' Select the tab you want from the dropdown menu.

So, if you followed click by click you should have a shiny, new custom iFrames fan page tab. When you created the app, you were creating the iFrame or the container that will serve up your web site content to your Facebook fans. There are both free and premium WordPress plugins that you can use to create the actual web page that will appear on your fan page. The more you do it, the faster and easier this process will become.
