One of the most difficult tasks of creating a profitable Google AdWords campaign is finding keywords that have few competing ads. These so called keywords are the phrases or words that online user type in the search box related to the topic or information they need.

In order to rank for those highly competitive keywords you may need to be a top search engine optimization provider but if you can find alternative keywords to the ones your competitors are using to sell the same product you can create a profitable campaign. These words are the termed as non-competitive keywords, one with fewer searches per month yet can give more traffic to your site.

If there are none or only a few ads using these keywords you won't have a high cost per click (CPC) and if your keywords have a high search volume and your ad is the only one showing, your profits will be faster compared if you were competing with a full page of ads. These two points makes non-competitive keywords beneficial.

There are several online tools that you can readily download in the internet that could be of great help for keyword searches. This is a great way to see what kind of competition you got going and check out what works and what doesn't and from this you can extract and list non-competitive keywords.

There are a number of ways you can research a keyword to determine how competitive it is. Open a spreadsheet and list all your keywords down, then at the opposite side you're going to record the following for each keyword:

First, search for your keyword phrase in Google. In the top right corner, Google will show you the number of competing pages for that keyword phrase.

Next, search for the keyword phrase again, but this time put quotation marks around the word. You will get a lower number of competing pages.

This will give you some insight into how many people are optimizing for your keyword.

Finally, go to Google's free keyword tool and search for your keyword. Google will display a green bar under "Advertiser Competition" column.

When you put your cursor over the green bar, Google will tell you the
keyword has "very low", "low", "average", "high", or "very high" advertiser competition.

While these results are for paid advertising, they reflect the competition for organic results as well. If you only want to see the results for that keyword, click on "filter my results" then check "Don't show ideas for new keywords. I only want to...."

When you're done, you'll have a list of keywords that will have a great shot at page rankings with proper optimization. Put yourself in a position to succeed and optimize for keywords that give you the best chance for top positions in the search engines, making non-competitive words work!
