Default Copywriting Tips: DIY or Hire a Pro

Copywriting, when done right, can look deceptively simple. So, the solopreneur, who is bootstrapping their online startup says to herself, "I can do that myself," and proceeds to attempt to write all of the copy for her website, her email newsletter, and even the PPC ads. But then as the days go by and her website is not getting as much traffic as she had hoped and the sales page that she wrote to sell her new eBook is not pulling in as many sales as she had hoped. She begins to wonder if it was such a brilliant idea to try to write all of the copy for her website herself.

Most people when faced with a toothache will make an appointment to see a dentist rather than trying to fix it themselves. So, why is it that with something as critical as the copy for your website, would you want to try to learn a new profession in a couple of days and then practice on yourself? On a recent episode of the TV medical drama, House, Dr. House discovers that he has a few small tumors in his leg that occurred as a result of having (illegally) taken an experimental drug. He decides that he is going to remove the tumors from his leg himself. He sets himself up for surgery at home in his bathtub, and, well it does not go well and he has to call in help. Although Dr. House is a skilled doctor it was still an unwise decision to try to operate on his own leg. But let's get back to copywriting.

Just as with hiring any other kind of professional, hiring a copywriter will cost you money. In the case of a professional copywriter that money will be an investment in the future profitability of your business, so it's a wise investment that will, if you have hired a good writer, bring a favorable ROI. But there will always be those newbie business people with no budget to speak of who have no choice at the moment other than to write their own copy. For those people, if they have passable talent as a writer, and they are willing to apply themselves and learn some new skills, they can learn to write copy for their website.

When you are making the decision as to whether or not to try to write your own copy or hire a professional, you'll want to consider the value of your own time that is probably better spent focusing on other aspects of your business. You'll want to consider how your website will stack up against your closest competitors, who most likely have had a professional write their copy, and you want to consider the time lost, and the money you are leaving on the table when your website's copy is not pulling in the traffic that you need to be successful.

Copywriting is just one of many important things that Internet marketers need to know to run a successful online business. For more tips and strategies for marketing your website, visit, http://www.mcreasite.com/blog today.
