Thousands of people all over the world want to quit their day jobs and start their online businesses, but few actually seriously take the plunge and even fewer still succeed. I believe one of the main reasons is fear. You see, in school, we were taught to follow orders and listen to authority, so many of us are not inclined to strike out on our own.

Starting a business involves an element of risk. But what is even more risky is not doing what you want to do and stay stuck at something you do not want to do. That often leads to the middle ground – mediocrity.

If you are ready to start your own successful Internet business, here are some tips to help you do just that:

1. Set specific goals. You need to set goals that give you the drive and motivation to work on your business until it succeeds. Set an income goal and goals that relate to your business, e.g. how many subscribers you want to get by the end of this year.

2. Start taking action immediately once you have set your goals! Procrastination will only prevent you from getting the success you deserve. Whenever you have an idea, act as fast as you can.

3. Be a devourer of information. If there is one thing that kills fear, it is possessing the right knowledge. Of course, knowledge is not everything – you have got to take action as well. I spend hundreds every year on products that help me to grow my business – you should too if you're serious about succeeding!

4. Position yourself as an expert in your niche market. The way to do this is by writing ezine articles, writing helpful and informative posts on forums, building a list and networking with other entrepreneurs in your market.
