It appears that more search engines are beginning to use link popularity as part of the search engine ranking process. But what exactly is link popularity? Link popularity is about the number of sites that are linking to your website or blog.

However, getting thousands of links from other sites linking to yours is not going to help much. The quality of the links is more important than sheer quantity. Should your website or blog be linked a number of popular sites then your rankings will be considerably higher than if you have links from the more unpopular sites. The thought behind this is that other sites will link to your site only if your site offers good quality content. If a lot of sites link to your site then it means that you are a popular site and you deserve to get high rankings.
