Tips for Writing Online Ads

The more effective your online advertisement, the better your click throughs and ultimately your conversions will be. There are actually many types of online advertisements. The most commonly used is the PPC or Pay Per Click Advertisement

#1 PPC ads are all about clicks and keywords. There are actually several different types of headline styles that work. They include:
Questions - Are your making as much money as you'd like?
Learn how - Learn how to make more money today
The newsworthy statement - "7 facts you must know about..." or "New study finds that 9 out of 10 people aren't making as much money as they could be."

#2 Don't use ALL CAPS or BOLD FONT in your headline. This essentially screams at your potential reader. It also tends to make an advertisement really look like an advertisement and while you can't likely fool people into thinking you're not an ad, you don't want to scare them away.

#3 PPC ads limit you to a certain number of characters within your body copy. With AdSense you get 35 characters per line and two lines. So that's a total of 70 characters. That's not a lot of space to compel readers to take action. What do you do with this space? Stress the benefits and/or make them an offer they cannot refuse.

#4 Your URL - many successful PPC advertisements create a unique URL for their final line. The goal is to include keywords in your URL that tell the prospect you are a legitimate business/offer and motivate them to click through.

For example, if you saw
www.joesmith.com/la887fset then your prospects are likely to be confused. However if your URL is makemoremoney.com: The Leading Making Money Site on the Net then you've likely tapped into your keywords and your URL is attention grabbing.

#5 Do your keyword research! The best PPC advertisements are very targeted to specific keywords. Make sure your keywords are found in the copy of your advertisement.

Finally, make sure to test and track the various elements of your Pay Per Click advertisement. Spend time testing your headline. Test your body copy including trying various benefits, offer statements and calls to action. You can even test your URL. (AdSense allows you to create a viewable URL within their system. You don't have to actually create a whole new website/sub domain.)
PPC ads are a great way to drive traffic to a sales page, an opt in page or some other offer. Learn to write great ads and you'll achieve your business goals quickly and easily. The Copywriter's Brain
