When you are working from home, it is very easy to get distracted. Some people just can't control themselves and find they have to go to the library or the coffee shop to get some work done. I prefer 'forcing' myself to be productive at home. When you can work from home without distractions, you can get a lot done in less time.

One of the best ways to work from home productively is to set up a neat home office. This means that your home office area should not contain any other distractions like a television set. This should be the space where you work and do nothing else. If you find other things distracting you (like your family members bugging you all the time), simply tell them that you're working. Perhaps close the door so that you will not be bothered when you are working.

If you get distracted easily when you are working online, then you must take some corrective actions there as well. Try not to check your email every few minutes. These days, most people expect their email to be replied to quickly, but frankly, most of the emails you will get concern their interests and not yours. Few emails are so urgent that they must be replied to now.

If you feel the urge to go to Twitter or your favorite social networking site just to chitchat, don't. Do that after work or before work. Don't do it while you're working. Twitter, YouTube and other sites can get addictive if you're not careful. Get your work done, and then spend maybe 30 minutes on Twitter or any other recreation site that you want to visit.

It's the only way you can ever get productive.
