One thing that that the media rarely talks about in this economic downturn is that small online businesses are doing better than ever. It's the big guys who are struggling. There are entrepreneurs who are making a killing online so the question is whether you want to give in to the negative news being put out by the media or do you want to take matters into your own hands. If you're part of the latter group, then read on.

First off, you have to realize that without having a focused plan, it is very hard to succeed. If you're confused about where to get started, then you need to make a decision right now and just focus on one strategy. Imagine if you were dabbling in eBay, business opportunities and affiliate marketing all at once. It's very hard to juggle your resources. If you spend all your time on just one business model, you are likely to make it succeed much easier.

Next, create a business plan. You have got to have some serious, well defined goals. 'Make money' is not a real goal. You have got to put it into numbers. Do you want to make $5000 per month online? $15000 per month? Codify it in writing. Write down all the things you want to accomplish (buy a new car or a new house) and write it down. Place your goals everyday beside your work desk where you can see them. This will make you so fired up in your business that you will start making things happen!

The next step is to put your plan into motion. Start deciding what products you want to market and create and spend substantial time each day on marketing activities that bring in customers. You might need to learn skills like setting up a website, article writing, ebook creation. Take it a step at a time and soon your skill set will be one to be reckoned with.
