If I had to narrow down the reasons why most marketers fail in building a massive, responsive list, I would come down to this reason: the failure to take the right actions to market their business to build their lists. There are three groups of list builders:

1. The marketers who know that building a list is important, but never take any action on building one. They often dream of owning a successful business, but never get down to doing it.

2. The marketers who constantly search for shortcuts in building their list, using strategies like guaranteed traffic or buying leads, both of which are ineffective.

3. The marketers who know that building a list takes time, and spend their time marketing their business to grow their list. They know that building a list is an ongoing thing.

I think you can see which group is going to be more successful in the end in growing a responsive list - group 3.

So how do you market your business to grow your list? Well, there is an overlap between traffic generation strategies and list building methods. Basically, building your list comes down to generating traffic to your pages.

What are some ways that you can list build affordably? Think article marketing, forum posting, giveaway events, classified ads, viral reports, video marketing, social networking etc. All these methods are free and yet they can drive extremely targeted traffic when done right.
