One of the main reasons why I write articles is to get traffic. While some people write articles because they enjoy it, the majority of us write them because we need customers, we need traffic and we need sales to boost our business.

How do article directories help us get traffic? They help us generate traffic by giving us the ability to add a URL link back to our website in the resource box, which typically appears at the bottom of every article. You write a short 'promotional' message and then include the link to your website. Once readers have finished reading your article, some of them will visit your link.

The prime way to leverage this traffic is by building a newsletter list. You include an opt-in form on your page (whether it's a shopping cart site, a sales letter, a name squeeze page, or a blog) and generate subscribers from the traffic you get. You can then foster a relationship with your subscribers, before you start selling to them. I do it this way instead of selling my products directly in my articles because I want to get my subscribers to know me better first, and this results in more people ultimately buying my products.
