Default The Importance Of Google Adwords Search Funnel

Google Adwords Search Funnel is a new Adwords reporting feature where it shows you the keywords that assisted in the conversion made through Google Adwords. It used to be only on reporting the last keyword before the buy was made or the last keyword used before the conversion to sales.

In the real world a normal search will not normally result in a conversion and it seldom occurs that a user will instantly buy after making the first search. Normally it undergoes a process of several searches because this is a normal thing for a person to do, make several searches or inquiries before they make the actual decision of buying.

A normal process also is a searcher making several searches probably for comparison but ultimately he will go back to your site and make the real decision of making a purchase. In this new feature the keywords used in the long process before the final decision is made, will be shown in the search funnel.

There are a variety of ways that funnels are created and Google will take note that when a user clicks on an ad they will link that search activity for an advertiser for 30 days. When the user makes other searches during that period the link will still be tracked to this particular advertiser and when he clicks back the ads and convert to sales, this search funnel feature will be reported, including the other keywords used.

This will also happen if the advertiser uses the Adwords conversion tracking codes otherwise a search funnel report will be released. This can also mean that no other searches and keywords are logged and reported in the funnel unless the advertiser has an ad showing for these keywords.

So what is the real use of the Google Adwords search funnel when there are prequisites or requirements involved? These may not be at all helpful and the prequisites are the following:
  • Only advertisers who make use of the Adwords conversion tracking code will see tracking results. This means that if you are not using the tracking code you will not benefit from it.
  • For a report to be actually available there should be an actual conversion. This means that with no conversions, no report will be released, so what is its use and purpose
  • The last is that someone needs to click on ads. No click means no search funnel report will be rolled out.
It is said that the search funnel report helps search marketers make more informed decisions when it comes to bidding or deciding whether to keep a keyword in the account or not. This is done by giving insights into the decision making process of the users before conversions are made.
