My best advice for list building is to start funneling traffic to your squeeze page via article marketing. The reason why I like articles for generating traffic and for building a list is because it generates the most qualified visitors on the Internet. Most of the sales I make from my email marketing campaigns come from visitors who arrived from articles. I don't think that is a coincidence; articles work!
The process I use for article traffic generation is to simply write quality, meaty informative articles, in the range of 400+ words and submit them to the best article directories, the ones with the highest traffic numbers. If they have a high Page Rank, all the better. And they usually do if they are getting serious amounts of traffic.
Your articles should also be keyword optimized so visitors will be able to find them on the search engines or even directly on the article directories themselves. About 50% of article traffic you get will be from the article directories themselves as people use the search function. So that's another reason to write articles with optimized titles and body copy.
When someone comes in to my squeeze page from an informative article, they are much more qualified then someone who came in from a pay per click ad. They learned nothing from my ad, but from my article, hopefully they gained something valuable and will opt-in to my list. And that's often what happens with the system I have set up specifically for generating traffic and growing a list.
