I spend the majority of my time online on marketing and advertising, basically activities that funnel traffic to my website. Why do I spend more time on these activities than any other activity? Because it fuels my online business. Make no mistake, if you want to succeed online, you are going to have to make a few sacrifices. These are the "hidden costs" of getting traffic. You might need to watch less TV, spend less time chatting on MSN or even spend less time with your family. I'm not kidding; your business depends on driving traffic and you'd better be spending time on traffic generation if you want to make the real money online.

You see, you can have the most beautiful website in the whole world, but you're not making a dime unless you drive targeted visitors to it. Imagine a car or a aircraft with no fuel. It can be the most sophisticated aircraft in the world or the fastest car in the world, but without fuel, it's not going to move an inch. It's not going to be much of a use.

You can spend hundreds of dollars on your website and have the fanciest graphics and your sales conversion rates can be more than 10%, but without traffic, making money online with that website is impossible. The only way to make money from it might be to sell it!

So there are hidden costs to generating traffic. If you're working for free traffic, that's time you are using. That's your hidden costs. And if you're spending money, then of course those are costs that you have to consider. But you have to drive traffic online, whether it's free traffic or paid traffic.
