Targeting your lists to specific niche markets and demographics is one proven way to increase responsiveness of your lists and make a whole lot of money. There are two ways to grow a targeted list - you can start by directing your traffic sources to different opt-in pages (for example, one for foreign exchange traders, another for stock traders, another commodity traders) and build targeted lists like that. So you would create pay per click ads or write articles that are designed to promote certain opt-in pages. A commodity exchange pay per click keyword would promote the commodity exchange squeeze page, for example.

The other way is to send out an email to your general list and offer them a targeted free gift (for example, you send out an email to your investing list and offer them a foreign exchange report, but they have to opt-in to a sub-list). Both of these tactics can work very well for you.

When you build targeted lists like in the methods described, you have to tailor your emails to suit the audience. You have to promote products that are only related to the list theme. So you wouldn't promote a commodity trading product to a foreign exchange trading list. You will just get many people unsubscribing if you do that.

If you were to ask me what my preferred method was, frankly I think building targeted lists from the start is the best way to go. That way, you will be able to concentrate on the specific needs and wants of your subscribers immediately from the start.
