List building is actually pretty tricky for a beginner to get started with. With traffic generation from a list, you need to actually go out there and get that initial traffic first to build that list. However, once you have the list, you can get traffic by sending emails to it quite regularly.

With list building, it is a simple matter of quality relationship building. You have to get your subscribers to feel like they know you and ultimately trust you, if you want them to buy from you. Once this part is established, your list can become a reliable traffic generator for your affiliate promotions, your own products etc.

You do not want to continually sell to your list every single day if you want them to be responsive. Many people will just unsubscribe and send you angry emails if you do that. Sure, you may want to sell to them a few times a month because after all you need to make money from your list to maintain it. But the important thing is not to overdo it. You have to balance promotions with content to keep your subscribers happy and loyal.

To start building a list, obviously you would need your own website. Preferably, set up a squeeze page as that will generate the most number of leads for the traffic you get. Then just start using other promotional methods to send traffic to that web page to build the list.

Tip: It is very important to get fresh new subscribers on a continuing basis because subscribers tend to become less responsive as time goes on. So it is very important that you get fresh names on to your list regularly.
