Perhaps a downside of using paid advertising methods like pay per click advertising or banner advertising is that the traffic you get will often not be the most targeted even if you try to target your ads. Most the visitors from PPC ads or banner ads are impulsive visitors; they clicked on your ad out of impulse and then opted in out of impulse too. So oftentimes, the leads you are getting are not the best quality you could possibly get.

It's still important to keep those methods in your arsenal as they do generate some targeted traffic and some qualified leads, but if you want the most qualified leads possible, article marketing is hard to beat.

People who subscribe to your list via an informative article will be much more responsive than someone who responded from a 3-line ad. It's only natural because in an article, they get more information from you, so they are coming in to your website on a greater tilt.

When someone is searching for information, would they prefer reading an article that answers their question or to click a short ad that leads to an opt-in page asking for their email? I know which one I would prefer. If a visitor comes in from an article, he will be more likely to want to opt in to your list to get more information from you. If they don't find the answer they are looking for, they will simply click away - it's as simple as that. But if they like your article, if they like your information, you have a quality, responsive subscriber on your hands.
