In network marketing, they have a system called 'funded proposal' where they get all their web traffic paid for by their customers. How is it done? Well, you send your leads to a sales page and makes sales from there, and those sales will cover your costs of getting traffic, so essentially you are getting leads for free.
How do you implement this? If you are building a list, what you'd want to do is, once your subscriber opts in to your form, you redirect the visitor to a sales page. At the top page, tell them that their confirmation email is arriving, and in the meantime, they can check out this special offer that you have. You'll be able to generate a few sales for every hundred subscribers you get. Of course, the more irresistible, valuable and relevant your offer is, the more sales you will inevitably make.

They have already taken one action (opt-in to your list) so they are far more likely to take another one immediately (buy a product).
