Lightbulb Product Creation - Is it Okay to Use Other Peoples' Ideas When Creating a Product?

I guarantee you've read an extensive amount of information regarding the advantages of creating your own product.

And there are many: branding; keeping all the profit you make from sales, plus the potential of a large number of sales from WSO's etc.

Product creation is more than just a hobby for me, and that's why I'd like to outline the two key issues regarding this subject.

The first is time.

It's time-consuming to write an e-Book, or create an email or video course.

The second is thinking up ideas for new products.

So, how do you come up with original ideas that will enable you to create a product in a short amount of time? Saleable products, that is!

Put yourself in this picture. Imagine yourself being in 'look-out mode' for new inspiration. You desperately need a title; a thought - just SOMETHING to enable you to get started.

And then it suddenly hits you... No, not the perfect idea, but an email residing in your Inbox.

You'd received an advertisement for a fantastic product, one that you'd wished you'd previously thought about and created yourself.

But you didn't. So now you're wondering if it's okay to copy another person's ideas and use them to create your own product?

Before I answer that question, let me tell you a short story...

My Editor said: "Use This!"

After my sixth book was published (the first in a new "easy-to-follow" series) I contacted a magazine with an idea for an article.

The editor was pleased with the offer, and told me that they were recently discussing how they would love to have me writing for them, as I wrote in a style that even beginners could easily understand.

Also, he recognised the fact that all of my books were original and written entirely from scratch.

The article idea I had was clear in my mind, and I wrote an outline and sent it to the magazine.

"Yes, please," they said, and then added: "We'll send you some material you can use."

Some material?

To say I was puzzled, was an understatement.

A few days later, a similar article to mine, from an English magazine, arrived by mail. "Use this", my editor said.

This shocked me!

I had NEVER copied anything in my life, not even homework (ah, okay, maybe homework once), and the thought of using another person's article was unsettling for me.

However, I didn't use it. I wrote my own article from scratch. They liked it, and it was subsequently published. But it took me a long time to write.

I couldn't believe that they wanted me to use that published article as a basis for my own. Wasn't that just plain stealing? Plagiarism, in fact?

But the times move on, and we've now come to accept...

Using Other Peoples' Ideas and Research... by Utilizing PLR

However, there is still a train of thought that says there isn't any copyright on ideas.

And there's probably an element of truth in this.

But I know of more than one writer who's had their books removed from the shelves, simply because they'd used other people's ideas - even when they'd entirely transformed these ideas by rewriting them in their own words.

If you want to avoid lawsuits or other legal hassles, but still need something to "gee you up" before you hit the ground running and start writing, you can go either of two ways:

1: You can pay for research to be done and find a ghostwriter to write your article or e-Book.
This is an ideal solution. However, it could prove to be very costly.

2: You can purchase high-quality PLR products and use these as a starting point.
PLR packs aren't expensive, and you'll have full legal rights to utilize the ideas and research
already done by the author.

When you have a basic product to use as a skeletal outline for your own product, the creative process becomes a breeze.

* You already have the idea(s) served up to you on a silver platter.

* All the research has been done for you.

* You can quickly and easily rewrite and rephrase the product in your own words, or create a
video product based on the text files.

Purchasing a PLR pack is like gaining the best of both worlds: You obtain a low cost product with full rights to use the idea(s) and the copy in text format, together with the capacity to create your own product in the shortest possible time.

Could it be any better than this?
