Most people use article marketing to drive traffic to blogs, affiliate products, product review pages etc. But I can tell you by far the most effective way to make the most of your articles is to use them for list building. Articles are the perfect 'relationship starters' with your prospects, and it complements nicely with list building in that you can continue to further this relationship with them where you provide value and you get paid.

Here is the process for article marketing (it's so simple, you will be kicking yourself that you didn't think of it at first):

Step 1 - Research Keywords

Spend time on keyword research first. This will bring out the most mileage for your articles as they will rank higher on the search engines if you optimize your articles with the right keywords. Use Wordtracker to do your keyword research.

Step 2 - Write Articles

Write your articles. If you don't want to write, you can find a writer at Elance or the Warrior forum who will write articles for you for a small fee.

Step 3 - Create A Resource Footer

The resource footer (or resource box) is where you put your link back to your site to get traffic. Make this benefit-laden and call your readers to action to get them to click on your link.

Step 4 - Submit Articles

Submit your articles to article directories on the Internet. You'd want to submit to only the top directories at first, before submitting them to the lower-tier directories to wring more traffic out of your articles.
