What Sons of Anarchy Teaches Us About Internet Marketing

I am not sure about you but I love Sons Of Anarchy. It is a gritty and intense show that seems to never let up. If you are not familiar with the show let me run down the stars of the show, this will help you with the definitions as I lay them out there.

Jax: Who is second in command and the son of the man who started the club and who was killed by the man who now runs the club.

Gemma: Who is the mother of Jax and married the man who killed Jax's father, all for the betterment of the club.

Clay: Who is the man who killed Jax's father and now runs the club
Wayne: Who is the sheriff who covers everything up.

Now that you have the cast let me show you what I have learned from the Sons Of Anarchy about internet marketing. Just like the cast above with all the character defects and attitudes we have the same things playing out in the internet marketing world.

You have the Gemma's of the world, who live in denial. They can see the big picture from time to time, but they will always make the wrong decision or "follow" the wrong person. Because they have either been fooled or duped into believing that you have to be close to someone who is in power to succeed in internet marketing. All the while hoping that some day that person will recognize and promote them into stardom.

Because of this you will always see the "Stars" with their posse, or in this case the Gemma's following them around spouting and communicating how great they are. Unfortunately there will come a moment in time where their world starts to crumble and they won't be any richer than the time when they began.

There are very few people who get the attention of the big time marketers, you will have better success if you just find a business plan and work the plan every day, it is better to become (insert your name), then Gemma.

You also have Wayne, who has chosen the dark side and became a corrupt cop, protecting the club, and Clay without any remorse. He had started out his life as a cop, protecting the people, but ended up clouding the situation, allowing the club to do as it pleases.

In marketing you have those who are out there to scam and do whatever it takes to make a buck. They will lie, cheat, and steal while promoting false techniques and tactic that do nothing but scam other people. They won't even think twice about it. The best way to build a sustainable business is by being ethical and out to help those around you.

Then there is Clay. He killed his friend because he did not believe in the direction they were taking the club. He basically thought his vision and mission and life was better than everyone else's, and he romantizes his decision by cloaking it under the statement, "I do it for the club." He then married the wife of the man he killed, and begins raising the dead man's son, who is Jax. There is only one thing on his mind, keeping the power so that he can continue running the club. He will do whatever it takes and kill whoever gets in the way of the club. Nothing else matters!

Now we have marketers who are ruthless. They will step on and run over anyone who gets in the way of them making money. You have to have some of this attitude to be successful. You have to be out there and doing the things that makes you money. A lesson I learned a long time ago, do something every day for your business. You have to be about your business, always making it better and more effective. But be carefully who you run over, because you never know who will be in charge tomorrow.

Perhaps the star of the show is Jax. He is willing to do whatever it takes for the club, but he is not as reckless as Clay. In other words Clay will always choose war and death as the solution, and Jax will choose wisdom and plans to work the issues out. Same results for the club, but one allows for a longer sustainable club. Clay's methods don't bring about as much "problems" for the club, but brings about more profit for the club.

These are the guys in internet marketing that make just as much or more than Clay's of the world. But they take others with them. They are not always in the lime light and don't need as much attention but they are just as ruthless and dedicated to the business. They will do anything to increase and improve their business, but they will do so in a way that insures long term success. In other words they may not make money today, but they will make millions tomorrow.
