If you're thinking about using Adwords to generate leads, you need to think specifically about what business model you are going to use. The two most effective ones are:

AdWords => Your Squeeze Page

AdWords => Sales Page With An Opt-In Form

Now let's get deep into the discussion.

With Placement Targeting, you'd definitely want to use a squeeze page, since the traffic you get is not going to be the type to buy immediately.

With the 'traditional' AdWords route, you can use a pure squeeze page or a sales letter with a prominent opt-in form at the top of the page. This acts like a squeeze page cum salesletter. You design the top of your salesletter like a squeeze page with an opt-in form, but below that, you have your salesletter. Ewen's sales page for Secret Affiliate Weapon or Autopilot Profits is an example of this awesome method to build your list and get those sales from 'instant gratification' buyers. You get the best of both worlds with this sales page design.

You have got to test it. Give yourself 2 weeks to a month to test both strategies and see which gives you the greatest returns. Of course, 'returns' would depend on whether you want to build a bigger list or you want to look at your bottom line at the end of the testing period.

With a squeeze page, you will lose some buyers who buy on the whim, but on the other hand, there is no doubt you will get better qualified visitors to view your sales page and you will grow your list faster too.
