SEO Is Changing - Are You Ready?

SEO used to be so easy. You could put up a page with good on-page SEO, distribute a few articles linking back to it and get ranked pretty easy (provided you picked out the right keywords to use, of course).

But but now it seems to be getting harder and harder to get those rankings. Maybe you have noticed this as well?

The truth is that search engines only want to display the best results for each search. They always have but it's always been a bit easier to "game" those results. Now search engines are starting to use social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and Google+ more and more to determine rankings and this can have a huge impact on the traffic you get.
When you think of it, it's no surprise that they would do this, after all websites and articles that are being talked about on social media sites are articles that people are think are good and that they want to share with others. They are articles of quality and that's just what the Search Engines want to have in their listings.

I suspect that search engines will be relying more heavily on social media for ranking factors in the future and SEO will be changing rather dramatically. It already has started with the "Panda" updates of this year.

Are you ready?

I believe that surviving in the coming years is going to mean that you have to make an effort to get involved in social media to make people aware of your message (that's fancy talk for promote your sites).

There's one catch though. You can't fake it on social media. You can't just open a twitter account and then blast out ads for your products or affiliate links. No one will want to follow you. Same goes for Facebook, Google+ and any other social sites.

You have to actually get involved. Become an expert in your niche. Give out good content, ideas and advice. That's the way it is going to work in the future.

Oh sure, there will still be some long tail keywords that you can rank for because the competition doesn't have a social media presence but if you want to make the big bucks you are going to have to buckle down and focus on just one niche (ok, if you have ADD like me maybe you will pick a handful) and really work at earning peoples trust.

The bottom line is that you are going to have to immerse yourself in your chosen niche(s) and make an effort to solve peoples problems and bring value to the marketplace. You need to build a tribe. That's going to involve using social media to connect with people and I think, if you want to improve your business this year, one very important thing you need to do is to learn the ins and out of using social media so that you can attract people into your business. Once you do, you will find that you have a growing customer base of people that buy from you over and over again.
