One of the oldest but effective ways to build your links is forum posting. Basically, you will put a signature link in your profile and start posting relevant topics that gives value to the community.

What makes you think forums are still very effective for link building?

For instance, if a certain member is looking for a solution to his or her problems, fellow members will reply to the thread in order to give an answer. Since there are lots of members who are replying, they want the thread owner or the OP himself to be attracted with their answers and click on the signature link.

The more forum posts you have with the signature link, the more backlinks you will generate. In other words, you will get targeted traffic from forum members (depends on what category or sub-category) are you posting to. We can also call this as forum marketing, as we promote our websites through forum signatures.

Is this still going to be effective in the near future?

As long these forums will stay alive with lots of daily activities, for sure you will gain a lot of backlinks from them....and even potential sales from your affiliate links or banners. Some of you may think forum marketing is already saturated and "too old" for newbies to make money, but you're wrong!
