Some have pointed out that Google reducing slightly the SEO advantages of EMDs means they may not be as valuable as they once were. I say "poppycock" to that! It's true that the SE value of them has been diminished a little. But it will never disappear altogether. Many, many people visit their favorite sites not by typing them into the address bar but by typing the keywords directly into the spot where their cursor first appears when they launch their browser. For example, if they want to visit the CNN site, they simply type "cnn" into google. These people do not move the mouse to the address bar, click in exactly the right spot and then type in the full H T T P colon slash slash c n n dot com! For that reason alone, EMDs will always have a ranking advantage from Google because Google is obsessed with delivering relevant results and to show these surfers anything else would be going against everything that they claim to stand for. The other reason that EMDs are as valuable as ever is because we are running out of EMD keywords. You may recall that there was once a time (not that long ago) where you could still grab a four letter domain. That time has since passed. Then there was a time when you could grab a valuable dictionary word domain. That time has since passed (all that is left is adjectives). We are fast approaching the time where all the good EMDs will be gone. Yes, there are new products being launched that will always provide a source of fresh EMD hand registrations for 10 bucks. But there are far, FAR more evergreen products whose EMDs have already gone. Think of household appliances, everyday products and other things, the names of which have not changed for decades and probably won't anytime soon either. The net is closing in and many of these evergreen EMDs will soon be lost. Then you can expect the price to skyrocket. Already I am seeing many of these EMDs selling for signficant sums. The dot coms are the most valuable but the dot net and dot org domains are also valuable too. Remember, it is not all about SEO value. EMDs have great branding value. Just imagine that you are a store selling red shoes. What better way to brand yourself than redshoes.com? This has zilch to do with SEO value, this is all about brand recognition. The same goes for 4-letter and dictionary word domains. They were not bought for SEO value, they were bought for branding value. So, in conclusion, EMDs are still as strong as ever. Don't believe anyone who tells you any different.
