The easiest and most cost-effective way I have found to build a mailing list online is article marketing. You don't have to spend a dime upfront to work this marketing strategy, the traffic is residual, and you can potentially get 200-500 visitors per day alone from article marketing.

The way I use article marketing to grow a list is that I don't link to affiliate links or blogs in my articles' resource box; I link to my 'squeeze' page. A squeeze page is a simple web page with an opt-in form on it enticing visitors to subscribe to your mailing list for something that has a perceived value. For example, this might be a free report, a free interview recording or even a free piece of software.

Very few article marketers build a list with their articles. Many send their traffic to affiliate links. Don't do this! You will only be building the business and the list of the merchant, rather than your own.

Once your subscribers are on your list, warm them up with top-notch information on the topic. When you finally recommend products to them, they will be more likely to buy from you.

Use articles as your traffic generator and list builder and build your company! Instead of promoting affiliate products, create your own products to compete in the same niche and have affiliates promoting you instead. Sooner or later, your list will grow by the dozens everyday and the only way to stop it is to shut your web host account down!
