Popular Niche Marketing Myths and Facts

There’s a lot of hype about niche marketing. Along with excitement often comes misinformation. If you’re an aspiring internet marketer this misinformation can be dangerous. It can cost you time, money and energy. Instead of dealing with all that frustration, learn the facts and start your business off right.

Myth #1 There Are No More Profitable Niches

Fact: No true! If it were the case then humanity would come to a standstill. We’re a species that is ever changing. Technology changes. Trends come and go. The world is continually evolving and growing. As we change and grow new niches present themselves. And of course there are still niches waiting to be discovered.

There are many of keyword tools available to use in brainstorming approaches to discover your ideal niche. Begin with what you know, are good at, and are interested in. Allow the brainstorming process to lead you in the right direction.

Myth #2 You Have to Select a Niche You Know

Fact: You don’t have to know or be an expert in your niche to succeed. Many people achieve great success online in a niche they knew nothing about until they started researching and writing about the topic. For example, in the story of Julie and Julia which was made into a movie Julie set about to learn to cook and blog her way through Julia Child’s cookbook. She knew next to nothing about cooking before she started. That’s a very Hollywood example to be sure. The point is you can create a “beginner” niche and learn right along with your prospects and readers.

Myth #3 Niche Marketing is only for Affiliate Marketers

Fact: You can be a service provider, retailer, information marketer, blogger or an affiliate marketer. You choose how to best monetize your niche. Niche marketing has been around for far longer than the concept of affiliate marketing. Companies learned long before the Internet was a glimmer in anyone’s eye that specializing and focusing on a small target audience reaped profits. So no, you don’t have to be an affiliate marketer to benefit from niche marketing.

Finally, some people will tell you that you have to have a niche to succeed. It’s strongly recommended. A niche will help you reach an audience faster and you can develop a loyal community of followers and customers. However, if you have other ideas about the business you want to create and are not focused on immediate profits then create your plan and take action. You need to choose a niche if you do want profits sooner rather than later and you want to have an online presence fast.
