Each year, usually around New Year's many people set a list of personal and business goals that they would like to accomplish in their lives. We set goals to push us forward, but often in life there are those unexpected events that pop up and alter our course. What is it that keeps you on track towards your goals despite outside distractions? It's your, "Why," that keeps you moving forward. When your 'why' is big enough, and compelling enough you can accomplish just about anything you set your mind to.

It's the end of the year now, and you have spent the past 11 months working towards the goals you set last January. Now is the time to revisit those goals and do a check-in on your progress.

Here are ten questions that you can ask yourself at the end of the year to assess how you did and prepare you to set new goals at the start of the New Year.

1. What were your proudest accomplishments from this year? Taking the time to celebrate your accomplishments will create the space for more of the same.

2. What goals did you successfully achieve this year? If you have set important goals and achieve them, give yourself some credit for that. Most people set goals, but not everyone achieves the goals they set.

3. What preparations have you made for big goals for 5 or more years from now? Has the work you have done this year brought you closer to achieving your long term goals? If so, acknowledge that progress and write it down.

4. Have you been focusing your energy on things that you are passionate about and that energize you, or things that drag you down? When you give more energy to the things that you are passionate about, you will have more and more opportunities to pursue them. You will begin to find ways to delegate or eliminate the tasks that you don't like or that drag you down.

5. How can you attract more enjoyment and peace into your life? Look at your life and find more opportunities for enjoyment and eliminating stress.

6. What goals did you fail to achieve this year? Take a note of the goals that you did not achieve, and write down why you did not achieve them. Keep those obstacles in mind when you are setting goals this year and plan a way to overcome them.

7. What did you learn from those things that didn't go as you expected this year? When you take the time to absorb the lessons that the events in our lives come to teach us, we will not repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

8. What have you been putting off that you need to complete before the year ends?

9. What are you grateful for this year? Make a list of at least 100 things that you are grateful for and watch more good things start coming into your life.

10. What major accomplishment would you like to complete in the year ahead? Take a look at the coming year and dream big.

When you take the time to answer these questions thoughtfully, you are taking the time to invest in yourself and your success. Remember that 'why' that motivates you and use it to push you beyond the obstacles that will always pop up in your path. True success is found only when you are willing to keep getting up after every setback.
