First you have a shop or a publisher that wants to sell something. Let's take Amazon.com as an example. Amazon, the biggest warehouse on the planet, wants to sell as many products as possible so they offer people like you and me a commission if someone buys a product that you referred him to.
How do refer people to these products you might ask. Well, you can set up a simple web blog (know even if you don't know anything about that, it is really very simple. You don't need to know any kind of code or anything like that.) and then you write a short review of this product. You don't even need to buy the product. You can watch some reviews on Youtube about the product or you can get some information from the manufacturer.
Let's say you want to promote a screw driver. What you do is set up your website (takes around 1 hour for newbies), then you research some information about this screw driver and write you review. After that you make sure that people find your website (I will tell you more about this later on) and when someone finds your review and clicks on your affiliate link from Amazon and ends up buying this product or anything else on Amazon you get around 6% from this sale. So for a screw driver you could end up with around $10 for just one sale. If you promote higher priced products your commissions would be even higher of course.
When you get the hang of it it really takes no real time to set up one of these blogs. You could do it in one afternoon even if you have never done it before.
Is this a free way to make more money? Almost I would say. You need to buy a hosting account and a domain name for your website. But these are just a few bucks so there is literally no risk involved at all. Show me a near passive income stream you can set up for a few bucks. You won't find this I would bet. And in the end, if you would just make one sale a month with one of your sites, you would already break even. If you can't afford to invest $10 in your side income then you should probably just get another "job" really.
