Affiliate Marketing - Going For The Immediate Sale Or Building A List?

Should you go for the direct sale or build a list to get affiliate sales? Most expert marketers will agree it's better to build a mailing list rather than go for the immediate sale. Here's why:

When you build a mailing list, you have a business asset. Without a list, traffic that arrives on your site and doesn't buy will most likely be gone forever. Very few visitors will return in the future and the 'attrition rate' can be high with typical online conversion rates of 2 to 3%.. However, when you have a list, what you possess is a consistent traffic source you can tap into at any time.

This is how most affiliate marketers build a list: they send traffic to an opt-in page before redirecting subscribers to their affiliate link. The idea behind this is that if someone does not want to give you their email address, it's not likely they will buy. Plus, by following up with subscribers who opt-in, you get the chance to promote your affiliate link to them more times! Most marketers will agree that it takes up to 7 exposures to an offer for a potential customer to buy. Once just does not cut it in marketing anymore!

So my advice is to start building a list to get more affiliate sales. Plus, you can promote more related affiliate offers to your list. Send your traffic to an opt-in page before redirecting them to your affiliate link when they sign up. Set up a follow-up autoresponder series to pre-sell the affiliate offer with informational content.
