Many new marketers question the wisdom behind building a list. Many don't see results from their initial list building efforts because the numbers on their list were rather small to start seeing any results. Hence, they think list building doesn't work.

It doesn't matter what niche you operate in; it's always beneficial to have a list of subscribers and customers to contact at any moment.

Here is the deal: the reasoning behind a list to expose a visitor to tons of possible sales points over the span of his time on the list. Of course, the better relationship you have, and with the right kind of marketing, you will make more sales.

Imagine this - a visitor comes to your site with no opt-in form and leaves. One sales point. That's the end of the story. Let's say instead he opts-in to your list and stays there for a year or even a few years, he will be exposed to many sales points.

Eventually, a good percentage will buy something from you.

Some people, rightly so, have concerns about getting through spam filters and whether email marketing is a long-term thing. Well, in business, uncertainty is the only thing that's certain. If you want to be in business, you've got to live with a little uncertainty. Frankly, I think email marketing will be around for a long time to come. If you watch the gurus, most of them make the majority of their income from email marketing. So why not follow their lead?
