There is no doubt that advertising on Google AdWords is one of the fastest ways to advertise your product or website. However, many new marketers make common mistakes that render their AdWords campaigns ineffective. It is often easy to avoid these mistakes and get more profitable campaigns out there.

1. Poor Keyword Lists

If you have tons of general keywords on your keyword list, it is often a good idea to get rid of them since this kind of keywords are often not as targeted as long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords are more specific keywords since surfers who are using them to do searches are looking for specific solutions. So if in doubt, use long-tail keywords.

2. Poor Ad Copy

Ad copy is vital to the success of your AdWords campaigns. Good copy can mean the difference between a campaign producing a positive return on investment and one that barely breaks even. Make sure you spell out the benefits of clicking on the link in the ad.

3. Poorly Targeted Website/Product

Your website and product must relate very well to the content of your ad. If your ad says 'Get A Better Golf Swing', then the target website should be all about getting a better golf swing. This will prevent untargeted traffic. The more targeted your website is, the greater results you will get out of Adwords.
